Yes, it’s been awhile since our last post. But it doesn’t mean that we weren’t doing anything!
It’s been about 10 years since we built our current church building, and there has been some wear and tear. We also wanted to make the sanctuary area where we have our Sunday Services to have a more welcoming atmosphere, as well as spice up our equipment, so we spent most of year 2015 planning this big renovation. Plus, we are celebrating our 20th anniversary as a church this year, we should do something special, right? It was a huge leap of faith though, especially with our diminishing congregation (we used to have a large number of military families but most of them had to go back home to the states), but we believed it was what God was urging us to do.
Anyway, let me show you what we did:)
Here is a photo of when we took off the carpet of the old stage and started to tear it apart. Notice that the color of the floor is pink, not unlike those of dentures. (Sorry, had to mention it)
This is after the workers came in and tore everything apart, including the storage space next to the stage.
Fast forward to 2 weeks later, and Ta-dah! Notice the beautiful floors and the lights! It has a much warmer ambiance than the fluorescent lights we used to have.
Obviously, this is what it looks with nothing inside so it’s going to look different once we start using it, but we’re very excited with our new sanctuary.
You are welcome to come visit us anytime if you are looking for a Japanese/English bilingual church in the area. We are driving distance from the Atsugi Base.
